A Guide to Change
Introduction
This is a Web-based learning resource, developed as part of a wider initiative supported by the European Social Fund. Despite growing evidence of a positive link between the organisation of work and increasing levels of productivity and innovation, there is scant evidence of how enterprises successfully organise and adapt their work practices to remain competitive. A Guide to Change provides a major source of practical knowledge relating to issues and choices that arise in making change happen. It summarises rich accounts of real events and their effects on people within enterprises confronting change.
The knowledge is drawn from three main sources:- A wide range of research and theory relating to successful change.
- 35 studies from the UK and the rest of Europe yield a wide range of Key Learning Points.
- The networks of enterprises established by UKWON to exchange experiences and to learn about change. Learning networks, in which managers and employees come together to exchange ideas and experiences with their peers, have demonstrated their worth as a means of stimulating and informing innovation.
This Guide is intended to be used as a source of information and guidance to managers who are involved in the process of change, or who are preparing for change. It is not offered as a set of solutions or recipes. There are no blueprints for change. Rather, the lessons that can be learned are offered to encourage reflection on the current situation within your own enterprise. Conditions for success will differ from enterprise to enterprise. Each has to learn to adapt its own organisation to reflect individual circumstances and potential.
