The Resilience Diagnostic Tool

The Resilience Diagnostic Tool

The Resilience Action Resource Kit (ARK) was developed by an expert team from UKWON, the CBI and their network of European partners. It is designed to help organisations assess their ability, and that of their employees, to survive – and to thrive – in an environment in which radical change and uncertainty have become commonplace.

Resilience grows from established workplace practices as well as from the way in which change is handled. ARK invites both managers and employees to assess ten dimensions of the way your organisation works through an online questionnaire. Results from this consultation then guide you towards resources and support that can lead to effective and sustainable change.

The Action Resource Kit: building resilient organisations and employees in times of change

How well is your organisation and its workforce able to adapt to external pressures and shocks? And what do your employees know about your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses?

Versatility and resilience cannot be created at the moment of change: they are the result of long term investments in building trust, competence, creativity and flexible work practices.

ARK  - a simple, online questionnaire and learning resource:

Assessing and improving ten key dimensions of your organisation’s culture and practice

Measuring the alignment of management knowledge of the organisation with the day-to-day experiences of employees

ARK measures your organisation’s working practices and cultures against ten key dimensions:

·         Communicative competence

·         Preparedness for change through partnership

·         Organisational orientation

·         Transferable competencies

·         Reflexivity

·         Health and wellbeing

·         Orientation towards learning and development

·         Team orientation

·         Work relationships

·         Creative thinking

ARK works in four stages:

1.       When you register your details with ARK, each senior manager and employee will receive an email inviting them to share their views, in confidence, on working practices and culture within the organisation. When they log on to the questionnaire site, they will see a welcome message from you encouraging them to take part and assuring their confidentiality.

2.       Employees complete the questionnaire, which is designed to assess their day-to-day experiences of work in relation to each of the ten dimensions. Senior managers complete a different questionnaire designed to measure their perceptions of organisational practice and culture.

3.       Once the questionnaire has been completed by a suitable sample of employees and senior managers, you will automatically receive a report of findings. Against each of the ten dimensions you will receive a traffic light score based on the average responses of employees and employers. This can be further broken down by department or occupational group where it does not compromise confidentiality. You will also see a measure of the discrepancy between the perceptions of senior managers and the actual experiences of employees - and this provides an important insight into the effectiveness of two-way communication within your organisation. Finally you will be able to benchmark your organisation’s results against other ARK users.

4.       For each of the ten dimensions the report will provide you with practical guidance, case studies and resources that will help you to sustain existing good practices and to make necessary improvements.
